Bridget McNulty, a Type 1 diabetic, and her partner Mark Peddle, a photographer, plan to travel around the world, spreading awareness about diabetes, and showing that there is no reason for the disease to stop you living your dreams.
'Following a route that takes us through four continents and across many cultural and physical boundaries (our itinerary
), we plan to traverse first world and third, documenting our trip through words, images and video, all right here on this website. We want to illustrate how, as long as you stay on top of it, diabetes is a condition that can be dealt with, no matter where in the world you are.
'For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair
is to move.'
Robert Louis Stevenson
Sometimes being diabetic can get you down. The constant monitoring, the injections, the testing, the highs and lows – it can all get a little overwhelming. It’s at times like these that you need some inspiration, some hope that despite the fact that you have a chronic condition, you can still do anything you set your mind to, you can still live a normal life. We aim to provide that hope, by creating a constantly updated record of our journey, and of the challenges and triumphs of being diabetic on a round-the-world trip. We want to show that there don’t need to be any limitations for diabetics, that diabetes is not in charge of your life – you are.
We see this as an opportunity to get positive worldwide exposure about a manageable disease – to show the healthy side of diabetes. And to experience the world while we’re at it!'
