Melton Manor, Kwandwe
South Africa
Experiencing a relaxed safari from the privacy of your own comfortable
villa in the heart of a malaria-free, Big Five game reserve is the ultimate
great escape. Melton Manor at Kwandwe is all the buzz right now.
Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, in the heart of South Africa’s
less-touristy, Eastern Cape region, has now opened its second homestead
called Melton Manor. Offering absolute privacy and a very personal
safari experience with its own ranger, butler and chef, Melton Manor
is the fourth property on the reserve to open since 2001.
The contemporary
villa, built in a magnificent setting overlooking the Great Fish River,
has its own swimming pool and is the perfect escape for families or
friends who want to enjoy a safari together without without the intrusion
of other travellers. Interior designer Chris Browne, who has masterminded
the decor for Conservation Corporation Africa properties throughout
Africa for years, has succeeded yet again in creating a simple but
elegant interior while acknowledging the historical style of the early
frontier days. Local Settler furniture is given a fresh makeover and
the four, double en-suite bedrooms and generous living areas are gloriously
comfortable. Discreet room service is provided or guests can have fun
cooking together with Melton’s expert chef.
Kwandwe’s other secluded villa is the Uplands Homestead, which
reflects the relaxed warmth of a traditional frontier farmhouse. The
reserve’s two lodges - the original Great Fish River Lodge as
well as the contemporary Ecca Lodge – offer the more traditional
safari camp experience.
